Leveque goes undefeated on New England 9-Ball Series
Dennis Leveque got by Dereck McArthy twice – once easily and once, not so easily – to go undefeated at the New England 9-Ball Series tournament on Sunday, February 21. The $150-added handicapped, 10-Ball event drew 25 entrants to the Westgate Lanes in Brockton, MA.
The United States Snooker Association (USSA) initiated its 2nd Annual USSA National Snooker Tour with the first stop on the Tour at Embassy Billiards Club – directed by USSA director Richard Ham – in San Gabriel, CA, February 16-19. The event enjoyed a 12-player field. A handicap format was adopted for this Tour Event played as a single-elimination knockout competition, which featured the winner of last year’s Tour Event at the Embassy Billiards Club, Mei Yi Fei. Yi Fei had the lowest handicap at -45, indicating that he was the favorite for the event.

The 14th Annual Jay Swanson Memorial 9-Ball Tournament (“Swanee”) was
held February 13-14 at Hollywood Billiards in Hollywood, California. A
2 day grinder and an institution of an event on the west coast, this
year again saw a full 192 field with a dozen players on the wait list.
The Swanee celebrates the life of “Gentle Giant” Jay Swanson who was
much loved as a person yet equally feared on the table. “When Swanee
was regularly playing in Southern California events, the favorites were
usually him, Ernesto (Dominguez) and Keith (McCready)” said
Co-Tournament Director and pool commentator Jay Helfert.

The American Cuemaker’s Association is proud to present its 2010 recipient of the prestigious Cuemaker of the Year Award. The American Cuemaker’s Association (ACA) was established in 1992 to promote the American-made cue and cuemaker. Beginning in 2008, the ACA initiated the Cuemaker of the Year Award to recognize an ACA member who has provided a top quality product in an ethical, honorable, and professional manner through the years. The award will be presented at the annual ACA banquet at the Super Billiards Expo at the Valley Forge Convention Center in King of Prussia, PA, on March 18-21, 2010.

Billiard Congress of America 2009 President’s Award
Broomfield, Colo. – February 8, 2010 – Each year the Billiard Congress of America (BCA) recognizes an outstanding individual who has made significant contributions to the billiard industry with the presentation of the BCA President’s Award. This year the BCA has chosen to recognize Frederick Mali. Mali, who passed away at the age of 76 in 2007, was the president and CEO of The Henry W.T. Mali & Co., Inc. (Mali Cloth), the oldest continuously family-run company in New York City, founded in 1826.
Denver, Colorado February 2, 2010: WPBA Touring Professional Melissa Little competed in the 12th Annual Derby City Classic held January 21st-30th, 2010 in Louisville, KY. Melissa finished in the 4th round of the banks with 353 players, 2nd round of the 1-Pocket event with 290 players, and finished in the 4th round of the 9-Ball event with 257 players. Melissa secured the title with four total wins, placing 1st in the Woman’s All-Around and Dawn Fox secured the runner up spot with 2-wins to her belt.

Efren “The Magician” Reyes, who amassed nearly $1.7 million in prize money, and Allison Fisher, who won 27 Women’s Professional Billiard Association Classic Tour titles, were named Player of the Decade by the United States Billiard Media Association, the USBMA announced today.
