Youngblut had earlier vanquished Will Kohl [5] (Dewitt, IA) 4-4 in the semifinals just prior to his loss to Bowman.
On the B-side Anthony Garcia [6] (Cedar Rapids, IA) and Mike Rohner [4] (Dubuque, IA) eliminated John Gorsch [4] (Cedar Rapids, IA) 6-1 and John Sprague [4] (Albany, IL) 4-3 respectively at 7th place, In turn in the next round Garcia won again by ousting Will Kohl 6-2, while Rohner was whitewashed by Scott Hargens 6-0. Garcia then knocked out Hargens at 4th place on the hill – 6-5, and Garcia’s run continued to the tourney finals when he bested Cory Youngblut at 3rd place by a 6-0 margin. The tournament finals between Jesse Bowman and Anthony Garcia went only one set, but it was a hill-hill set, as Bowman [7] skimmed by Garcia [6] 7-5 for the title!!
