U.S. Amateur Championship Entry Window Opens April 1 Winners of Men’s and Women’s Division Advance to Pro Events

LAKE SAINT LOUIS, MO (March 30, 2012) – The entry window for the 2012 U.S. Amateur Championship opens April 1.  Players interested in competing in this year’s event can download an entry form at www.usamateurchampionship.com.

Preliminary qualifying rounds for the U.S. Amateur Championship will be held throughout the country in late-September.  The Men’s Division will feature 128 players, while the Women’s Division will feature 32 players.

The 2012 U.S. Amateur Championship, produced and conducted by the American Poolplayers Association (APA), will once again be held in the Tampa Bay area of Florida at Stroker’s – Palm Harbor and Crooked Cue just down the road in Clearwater, Fla.

Stroker’s – Palm Harbor will host the Men’s Division Nov. 9 – 11.  Crooked Cue will host the opening day of competition in the Women’s Division on Nov. 10, before the ladies join the men at Stroker’s – Palm Harbor on Sun., Nov. 11 for the final rounds.

The U.S. Amateur Championship is a double elimination tournament that offers the nation’s top amateur players the opportunity to showcase their skills through a combination of 8-Ball and 9-Ball matches, in the only APA event that does not use The Equalizer® handicap system.  The winner of the Men’s Division will advance to the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship, while the winner of the Women’s Division will advance to the WPBA U.S. Open, courtesy of the APA.

The APA, based in Lake Saint Louis, Mo., sanctions the world’s largest amateur pool league, known as the APA Pool League throughout the United States, and as the Canadian Pool League in Canada.  Nearly 270,000 members compete in weekly 8-Ball and 9″‘Ball League play.  The APA is generally recognized as the Governing Body of Amateur Pool, having established the official rules, championships, formats and handicap systems for the sport of amateur billiards.

The APA produces three major tournaments each year-the APA National Team Championships, the APA National Singles Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship-that, together, pay out nearly $1.5 Million in cash and prizes annually!
