(Shanghai)–Playing with his trademarked calm and cool demeanor, all the while exhibiting a deadly stroke and a fierce, quiet fortitude, the Philippines Lee Vann Corteza staked his claim to stardom today as he defeated Taiwanese veteran Fu Che Wei to win the 2013 China Open 9-ball in Shanghai.

The World Professional Billiard League has announced that top female pro Jennifer Barretta has signed to play for the Los Angeles Wave as an alternate.  Barretta who has been playing professionally for 10 years, will be the first woman to compete amongst the league’s current roster, consisting of 59 of the world’s top male players.

The World Professional Billiard League has expanded its previous roster of 48 players (36 fulltime and 12 alternate) to 60 by adding a second alternate to each team. The WPBL season will kick off Thursday May 30^th at 6pm PST with a free live broadcast from the WPBL Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

Jeff Chappell was born and raised in southern California.  He graduated high school and earned an Associate in Automotive & Diesel in Glendale, Arizona.  Jeff started playing pool in 1978, as a child on his dad’s table.  He started playing in pool leagues in 1995 and competing in tournaments.  His other hobbies include automotive restoration, playing poker and camping.
