WPBA Masters kicks off the 2011 Women’s Pro Billiard Tour season.
DARREN Appleton believes Europe has the best pool players in the world and that will lead to a home victory in this year’s PartyCasino.com Mosconi Cup.
Appleton is part of the European side aiming to retain the trophy this week after slumping to a disappointing 11-7 defeat in Las Vegas in 2009.
However, Appleton believes that loss will serve as a ‘reality check’ and claims his side were complacent and not motivated enough last year.
“œThe problem last year was we all expected to win and that’s the wrong attitude to have, especially in pool as the game requires luck at the right time,” said Appleton.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – China’s Xiaoting Pan won her first and last WPBA title of 2010, pocketing the final nine to the roar of a sold-out crowd in the WPBA’s prestigious year-end Tour Championships.
Pan defeated veteran pro Karen Corr of Ireland 7-4 in the match taped for later broadcast by ESPN/ESPN2. The tour championship was hosted by the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel and included sponsorship by the American Poolplayers Association (the world’s largest pool league); Diamond Billiard Tables; Iwan Simonis billiard cloth; Aramith balls, Delta13 rack, Cuetec Cues, Pooldawg and Mueller Recreation Products.

RODNEY Morris believes America’s greater desire to win will see them beat Europe and lift the 2010 PartyCasino.c
om Mosconi Cup. Morris, currently top of the BCA rankings, thinks he is in the form of his life and will play a vital part as his side look to defend their trophy.
USA won the 2009 Mosconi Cup, although Morris was not involved after coming second to Dennis Hatch in a public vote to find the final player in the side.
“œSitting there in Las Vegas and watching just tore me up inside because I know I’m the best player in the world,” said 40-year-old Morris.
WPBA Tour Championship Session #1 Results
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Women’s Pro Billiard Tour’s season finale kicked off today at the Seneca Niagara Events Center as round #1 got underway for the 64 best women pool players in the world today. Defending her title is Austrian native Jasmin Ouschan, hot off back-to-back wins at the Atlanta Classic (October) and the Women’s World 10-Ball Championships in Manila (November). She defeated US’ Amy Chen 9-2 in the first round and plays Sweden’s Helena Thornfeldt at 8 p.m. this evening.
An attempt to surpass the current Guinness Book of World Records for the “œLongest Marathon Billiards Match” will be made by Gareth Steele of New England 9-Ball and Steve Reynolds of TJ’s Classic Billiards. These committed players have teamed up to shoot for a record attempt of 100 grueling hours of continuous billiard play to benefit the Billiard Education Foundation (BEF).
Just a week ago, the WPBA announced some changes from 2010, and the Board has taken note of, and now concurs with, many who have since noted that the elimination of the Regional Tour Championships was unfair. WPBA Vice President Tamre Rogers observed: “In furtherance of its discussions, the Board recognized that Regional Tour players have invested time and money to earn a shot at winning a 2011 WPBA exempt spot and have earned the opportunity. It is also understood that WPBA players who are exempt in 2010 but fail to finish in the top 32 in the end of year rankings must not be denied a chance to retain their tour cards.”
