THERE WERE THREE more qualifying spots decided at weekend as the PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters ““ Race to Vegas, kicked into gear. Events in England, Belgium and Russia produced three quality players who will take their place in the 64 player line-up at the Riviera Hotel from 12 ““ 16 May.

On Monday 15th March at the Buxton Palace Hotel in the UK, England’s Karl Boyes won the qualifying event run by GB9 to secure a place in Las Vegas.

QUALIFICATION for the ‘Race to Vegas’ got underway in February and so far four players have won their way through to take their place in the starting line-up of the 2010 PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters.
This year sees the event restructured from a 16 player invitational into a 64 player event with approximately half the players qualifying and the other half invited.

The Billiard Education Foundation (BEF) is currently accepting applications for the 2010 scholarship awards. The BEF Academic Scholarship Program is administered annually under the direction and guidance of the BEF Board of Trustees. Leveque goes undefeated on New England 9-Ball Series
Dennis Leveque got by Dereck McArthy twice – once easily and once, not so easily – to go undefeated at the New England 9-Ball Series tournament on Sunday, February 21. The $150-added handicapped, 10-Ball event drew 25 entrants to the Westgate Lanes in Brockton, MA.

USSA NATIONAL SNOOKER TOUR

The United States Snooker Association (USSA) initiated its 2nd Annual USSA National Snooker Tour with the first stop on the Tour at Embassy Billiards Club – directed by USSA director Richard Ham – in San Gabriel, CA, February 16-19. The event enjoyed a 12-player field. A handicap format was adopted for this Tour Event played as a single-elimination knockout competition, which featured the winner of last year’s Tour Event at the Embassy Billiards Club, Mei Yi Fei. Yi Fei had the lowest handicap at -45, indicating that he was the favorite for the event.

The 14th Annual Jay Swanson Memorial 9-Ball Tournament (“œSwanee”) was
held February 13-14 at Hollywood Billiards in Hollywood, California. A
2 day grinder and an institution of an event on the west coast, this
year again saw a full 192 field with a dozen players on the wait list.
The Swanee celebrates the life of “œGentle Giant” Jay Swanson who was
much loved as a person yet equally feared on the table.  “œWhen Swanee
was regularly playing in Southern California events, the favorites were
usually him, Ernesto (Dominguez) and Keith (McCready)” said
Co-Tournament Director and pool commentator Jay Helfert.

One hundred and seventeen players gathered in Memphis for the 27th year in a row for the Superbowl 9-ball Open at The Rack. This year’s tournament brought a few changes, with new tournament director, Jason Ling, of Tupelo, Ms. who brought a friendly, but to the point feel to the event.
