Referee Class To Be Conducted at 2009 ACS Nationals in Las Vegas
A national referee training class will be conducted at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, May 31-June 2, 2009 – during the 2009 National Championships being produced by the American CueSports Alliance (ACS). Interested parties must have passed an open-book, ACS Referee test prior to attending the class. Class hours are flexible, with entrants taking either a 4-hour class in the mornings or a 4-hour class in the afternoons on each day. Class registration fee is $75, payable onsite. Successful completion of the course by the individual will result in accreditation at “ACS National Referee” level. The inaugural National Championship Series 8-Ball event took place February 13-15 at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, NV. 56 hopefuls arrived for their shot at the cash prize and opportunity to represent the U.S. in the World 8-Ball Championships in Dubai. This tournament was not open to the public. Players competed in qualifiers held across the country over the past few months for their chance to participate. Qualifiers were held up until the weekend prior, in attempt to fill the 64-player field.

The 13th annual Jay Swanson Memorial Tournament (“Swanee”) was held February 7-8, 2009 at Hollywood Billiards in Hollywood, California with a total prize fund of $16,600.

Hollywood Billiards is a nice room with a great atmosphere. The spacious billiard room has 28 Gold Crown III tables, is two levels with an open area upstairs which overlooks the action happening downstairs. The lower level tables have tight pockets and the upper level tables have larger drop pockets.

The USBA 2009 National 3-Cushion Championships is now underway with a field of 42 players from all over the country at Carom Café Billiards in Flushing, NY.
Defending National Champion – Miguel Torres
2008 Runner-up – Pedro Piedrabuena along with Mazin Shooni, Sonny Cho, Hugo Patino and Michael Kang are the six seeded players.

Format in the Prielims will be six flights of 7 players. Race to 25, with 3 top players of each flight advancing along with the 2 top 4th place winners making it 20 players in the semi-finals.

Horseshoe Casino and Hotel, a new venue for the DCC, hosted the eleventh Annual Derby City Classic. The annual convention has been in existence since 1997. Diamond Billiard Products, manufacturer of Diamond-brand pool tables, the official table of the US Open Nine-ball Championship, is the title sponsor, and the lead tournament promoter is Greg Sullivan. Over $100,000 is added to the tournament payouts. During the eight-day-long convention, competition is held in three major disciplines, bank pool, nine-ball, and one-pocket. A Master of the Table title is awarded each year to an individual player who participates in all three disciplines, and is determined by an ascending point scale and high quality of play, with a prize of $25,000.

The Blatt Billiards Predator 9-Ball Tour opened up the 2009 season at Raxx Pool Room in West Hempstead, NY with 70 players vying for the top prize. Top players in attendance included Jeremy Sossei, Oscar Bonilla, Ignacio Chavez, Fran Crimi, Empire State Champion Marc “Spain” Vidal, Liz Ford, Sean “Alaska” Morgan, Bobby Blackmore & Tony Robles.

As the 2009/10 Season of the Viking Tour gets ready to kick off it’s only natural that we look back and take stock of how the Viking Tour did in it’s 07/08 season. As most business were cutting back and citing declines in revenues due to recessionary reasons we are pleasantly surprised to say the the Viking Tour had it’s best season ever for our players, sponsors and room owners alike in the 15 year history of the tour.

Jacoby Tour

<br />Sharks-N-Shooters in Rocky Mount, North Carolina hosted the fourth stop on the 2008-2009 Jacoby Custom Cues Carolina Tour January 24-25. A twenty-eight player field turned out for the $1000 guaranteed added Main Event in which Mike Davis defeated Michael Fuller, earning $1000 in his second victory in 2009 on the Jacoby Tour.

Patino, Kolacz, Razon, and Ashby all earned their National entry at no charge, but had to play 2 final matches to determine the overall positions of finish in the Qualifier event and ranking points assigned by the USBA. Razon performed brilliantly as he defeated Patino by a score of 20 – 17 for 1st place honors. Meanwhile, Ashby sailed to victory over Kolacz 20 – 12 to win 3rd place positioning.
