HAVING WON THREE IN A ROW, CHINESE WOMEN LOOK TO DOMINATE YET AGAIN IN SHENYANG, CHINA
With short races to 7 racks, the world’s best pool talent on hand, and the pressure of a world title at stake, pool fans have come to expect plenty of upsets in the opening stages of world championships.
But for Chinese 9-ball fans, Monday produced one of the biggest downers imaginable as China’s wildly popular Pan Xiaoting lost twice on the very first day of the 2012 Women’s World 9-ball Championship and was sent packing from the 64 player field.
It is in this atmosphere that the other big names in the women’s game will have to contend. Hall of Famer Allison Fisher, World Ten Ball Champion Kelly Fisher, and two time US Open Champion Ga Young Kim are all big time stars in their own right in China. But the home team seems to carry a massive advantage on Chinese soil. The numbers certainly speak for themselves. Over half the field of 64 players entered in this year’s championship is from China.

The Dubuque 3-Cushion Open III
Eighteen three-cushion players from seven states gathered in Iowa on June 8, 9, & 10 for the third annual Dubuque Open. The competition was played on three reconditioned Brunswick tables in the Masonic Temple’s majestic billiard room.   Favorites going in were George Ashby of Murrayville, Illinois, who won the national tournament in 1976, 1981, and 1984, and Fred Lamers of the Minneapolis Billiard Club, who won the Dubuque Open the last two years. As many predicted, the two made it to the championship game.
